Associate / Architect
Roland Smith is the lead architectural designer for Beckwith Chapman Associates
(BCA). He has designed and managed a broad assortment of projects in both the
public and private sectors, including public sector projects for the Food &
Drug Administration, the U.S. Postal Service, the Department of Housing and
Urban Development, Pennsylvania’s Department of General Services,
Municipalities, and Universities. Recent projects include; Preble County
Historical Society’s new Agricultural Gateway Museum, an adaptive reuse of
historic Oxford College for Women into a new Community Arts Center, and the
Gratis Library renovation.
Past project experience includes; an adaptive reuse of Philadelphia’s historic
Wister School into a state-of-the-art Police Forensic Science Center, the
Delaware Canal Visitors Center, Miami University’s Student Athlete Development
Center, Certified historic rehabs of 1634 Spruce Street and the Doylestown Inn,
and HUD section 202 housing.
Prior to coming to BCA, Roland spent 15 years working in Philadelphia where he
cultivated his interests in design, historic preservation and sustainable
building practices. He is a registered Architect in Ohio, Pennsylvania,
Indiana, and holds NCARB certification.
